Transparent Sourcing – Organic Ashwagandha

We source our organic Ashwagandha through a local Indian partner based just outside Neemuch in central India. Neemuch is famous for being a prominent trading centre of herbs and is the only auction and trading centre of Ashwagandha roots (Withania Somnifera) in the world. Our partner works with thousands of small and marginal farmers in India by supporting them with agriculture training, seeds, inputs, guidance and organic certification. This means that hundreds of farmers have been able to raise additional income and hence been able to e.g. support their kids going to school.

Cultivation

Our farmers sow the seeds by hand sometime between July and August depending on the weather and soil conditions. Ashwagandha is a so-called strong crop, which means that it is less sensitive to the weather and water conditions. Irrigation is done roughly twice a month and come December/ January the crops are ready to be picked. Needless to say, our Ashwagandha is USDA Organic and no artificial products are used in the farming process.

Harvesting

The plant is taken out from the soil manually to ensure the quality of the roots. The roots are then washed and separated from the aerial part and the roots are left for sun-drying for one to two weeks. The roots are then graded and only the roots that meet our high-quality standard are used.

Powder Processing

After the powderisation process our organic Ashwagandha is analysed by the best local labs for microbial counts, heavy metals and pesticides for conformity to global MRLs & Standards.
